15 days on Kanjikullah village without drinking water, concerned authorities unmoved

Kulgam, Jun, 05: Residents of Kanjikullah village of Yaripora Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday said that in times of Covid-19 Pandemic they are without drinking water from last 15 days and the concerned department is nowhere.

The residents of the village said they are being forced to fetch the water from nearby streams which pose them the threat to get infected with waterborne disease.

They said that they were getting piped water from a spring located in neighbouring village, however, a water of local canal was mixing with the spring water due to which dozens of people fell ill in the area.

They said that pipes installed are also going through the canal and these pipes have leakage through which water of the canals which is very much contaminated was also entering in these pipes.

They further added that after several people fell sick in the area, they tried to find the reason and later it was found that water is contaminated as dirty water from canal was entering in it, following which supply was stopped.

They said that since then 15 days have passed but concerned department has failed to take any concrete step in this regard due to which locals of the area are suffering a lot.

Mir Ishtiyaq & Adil bashir a senior residents of the village which comprises of over 300 households said from the last 15 days we are without drinking water and despite informed several times to the Jal Shakti department they are paying no heed to our pleas.

The residents of the area have urged the higher officials of the Jal Shakti department to take immediate steps and replace leaking pipes besides that stop follow of canal wager into the spring and restore the drinking water facility to these area at an earliest
