MAYOR VISITS MUNICIPAL COMPOST SITE AT BANDU RAKH NEAR KUNJWANI JAMMU

Amid Nationwide Lockdown in wake of Corona Virus outbreak and by adopting proper social distancing today on 05.05.2020, Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta Mayor Jammu accompanied by Sh. Baldev Singh Billowira Chairman Public Health and Sanitation Standing Committee, Madam Avney Lavasa Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Sh. Sunil Kumar Sharma Executive Engineer Division – IV, Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma AEE, sh. Danish Kotwal concerned Junior Engineer visited Municipal Compost site at Bandu Rakh near Kunjwani Jammu and took stock of the various immediate development works being required at the said site. Mayor told that about 28 number of compost units for wet waste have been constructed by Jammu Municipal Corporation which are ready to function for making manure / fertilizer from wet waste generated from different wards as well as left over flowers collected from prominent temples of Jammu City while working of MRF (Material Recovery Facility) for dry waste constructed by UNDP is under process. Mayor further told that this is very prestigious Project of Jammu Municipal Corporation under Swatch Bharat Mission and required its proper maintenance. He directed the officers present on site for constructing a boundary wall around this Municipal Land to further avoid any type of encroachment by any private person, construct a deep drain connected with the compost unit for smooth flowing of dirty water in the nearby nallaha so that water does not remain stagnate on the roadside, replace the compost machine already installed there which is of low capacity with another one of large capacity for effective and smooth functioning. He further asked the officers to install more electric poles with High Mask LED Lights to avoid any type misshappenings due to prevailing darkness in the area, install visible Sign Boards at the Prominent Places leading to the compost site and construct a suitable shed on the wet compost units to avoid from rain. In order to retrieve the land near downside nallah where crates have already been put by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Mayor directed the Engineering Wing to further take up the matter with the said department for occupying the remaining Municipal Land near the Nallah. Moreover, the approach road to the compost site has been badly damaged, he instructed that the whole pits may be filled with suitable material and black topping be done in consultation with Public Works Department immediately so that Municipal Vehicles approaching to compost site at Bandu Rakh may not get damaged due to pits on the road and in order to make the environment eco – friendly, more & more saplings be done in and around the compost site which is the need of hour. He again appeal to the General Public to Co-operate with Jammu Municipal Corporation who is doing his job by applying men and machinery round the clock in terms of sanitization, fogging, spraying in all the wards of Jammu on daily basis during this hour of crisis of COVID-19 pandemic to contain the further spread of this deadly virus in Jammu City and requested people not to throw garbage, filth, silt on the roadside and in the public lanes / drains, nallahs, adopt the habit of segregation of dry & wet waste at their own level, plant more & more saplings in & around their localities, maintain their personal hygiene as well as proper Social Distancing so that Jammu City can be made neat, clean & green and the chain of Corona Virus epidemic can be broken successfully .
