Vijay Chhibber Appointed as Director General of Electric Power Transmission Association (EPTA)

The Electric Power Transmission Association (EPTA) announced the appointment of Mr. Vijay Chhibber to the position of Director General effective 8th April 2020. In this role, Mr. Chhibber will be primarily responsible for engaging with stakeholders to further the goal of reliable 24×7 power supply through development of least cost transmission system throughout the country.

Mr. Vijay Chhibber is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with over 37 years of public service in the Indian Administrative Services. In his earlier role, he was the Union Secretary Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with additional charge of Chairman, National Highways Authority of India. He has worked on several key assignments in the Government of India for the Ministries of Defence, Health, Commerce, Fertilizer, Shipping, Road Transport and as a Cabinet Secretariat. He was also Advisor to the Chief Minister, Government of Tripura.

Welcoming his appointment, Mr. Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director, Sterlite Power, said, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Chhibber as the new Director General of EPTA. He brings wealth of experience in managing several core sectors including infrastructure with the Government of India. We are confident that under his leadership, EPTA will create opportunities to strengthen the Inter-state and Intra-state transmission networks and the power transmission industry will scale new heights.”

Mr. Vivek Singla, President T&D, Adani Transmission, said, “We are pleased to have Mr. Chhibber join us as the DG, EPTA. Mr. Chhibber is a widely regarded technocrat and his insights and direction will be invaluable as we head into a strong phase of growth in the power transmission industry.”

Mr. P G Suresh Kumar, Business Head-Transmission Lines, L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Limited (L&T IDPL) said, “Mr. Chhibber’s appointment as the DG for EPTA is a positive step for the Association. We look forward to leveraging his presence and experience to drive growth in the sector.”

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Vijay Chhibber said, “I feel privileged to be appointed as the DG of EPTA. Power Transmission is central to India’s ambitious dream of 5 trillion-dollar economy and thus, it will be my endeavour to facilitate this sector to play its pivotal role in nation building.”

Since its inception in 2012, Electric Power Transmission Association (“EPTA”) has been playing a key role in promoting transmission development at the Regional, National and Intra-state levels by providing a platform to strengthen synergies and knowledge sharing within the industry and with the Government.
