Facing criticism; Floriculture Dept sets up more ticket counters at Tulip Garden amid Covid upsurge

Srinagar, Apr 07: The department of floriculture, which looks after the world famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar, after severe criticism from different quarters of the society has set up more ticket counters in view of the rising Covid-19 cases across the country.

Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a team of magistrates who had made a random inspection of the garden had submitted a detailed report to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar about the adherence to Covid-19 SOPs and protocols set by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Earlier, the deputy commissioner had directed the officials of horticulture department for strict adherence of Covid-19 SOPs and ensuring use of face masks, more ticket counters for visitors in the garden and signs so as to maintain a distance of two feet while purchasing the ticket.

As per the official sources, DC Srinagar had further directed the magistrates to make random inspections in and around the park to ensure the 100 per cent compliance of Covid-19 SOPs.

They said that today DC also held a review meeting about the containment measures of Covid-19 at district headquarters, where director floriculture informed the meeting that 6 additional ticket counters have been set up at Tulip Garden to avoid crowd and queues so as to ensure social distancing.

They said that DC had also constituted a team of youth volunteers from civil society under the name of ‘HIFAZAT” to aware people about the Covid-19 SOPs and protocols to be followed—(KNO)
