Rajouri, May 30: A 40-year-old individual died after falling into a native river in Rajouri district on Sunday evening. The body was in the meantime retrieved by police alongside locals and handed over to the family for last rites.
As per eyewitness, the (now deceased) Javid Ahmad Bhat was on the banks of the river when he suddenly fell into the water body at Bela Colony near Kikkar Morh in the district.
Soon after, a rescue operation was launched by the police alongside locals, following which the body was fished out from the river and handed over to the family, they told GNS.
SHO Sameer Jeelani confirming the death of the individual told GNS that the body has been handed over to the family for last rites after conduct of medico-legal formalities. “A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard for further investigations”, the police officer added.
