Srinagar, May 8: The families of healthcare workers working under National Health Mission are starving as their meagre salaries remain unpaid for the third straight month.
A group of employees said their wages have not been paid since March because of which they are undergoing mental trauma. “Along with arrangements for ongoing Ramzan, the lockdown has resulted in escalation of spending as we have to arrange private conveyance so that we could attend duties. On top of that we have to beg for our legitimate wages which is a shame”, the employees said.
They said they are facing extreme stress at both workplace and household front. “How are we supposed to manage arrangements for upcoming Eid when we are already indebted and haven’t got a penny in our pockets?”.
The employees urged the government to fulfil all their demands within shortest possible time or face a state wide agitation.
President of the Association, Muneer Andrabi, urged the authorities redress the grievances of the employees especially salary should be released on priority as on the occasion of Eid we are not able to support our families to observe religious festive. He said that it has become a habit on part of government that they never release the salary to NHM employees on time. “We appeal the Lieutenant Governor to pay heed to our concerns. Is this the reward for our fight against Covid-19?.” (KNT)
