Anantnag, Sep 17, KNT: Orthopedic patients are being treated on 3rd floor at Government Medical College Anantnag here in South Kashmir.

Earlier, such patients were treated on the ground floor but from past three months the ward has been shifted to 3rd floor much sufferings to these patients.

Insiders told news agency Kashmir News Trust that orthopedic patients who usually visit GMC Anantnag while in pain don’t get treatment on the ground floor. In case the hospital elevator is occupied, these patients have to walk up over a dozen of flights of stairs.

“Imagine the condition of a patient with broken leg. It becomes really difficult for him or her to walk up flights of stairs,” said one of the attendants.

When this Reporter tried to bring the matter into the notice of Medical Superintendent GMC Dr Muhammad Iqbal, he instead of coming up with a satisfactory reply threatened to lodge an FIR. “You are always harassing us. I will lodge an FIR against you,” the MS said and banged the phone.

Pertinently, few days back, when a news agency Reporter highlighted the plight of Para Medical Students at Baramulla School of Nursing- the Principal GMC Baramulla, according to that Reporter was misled by a blue-eyed employee and she sought registration of an FIR against the Reporter on flimsy grounds.

“FIR for what when we have video evidences, nursing students narrating their ordeal. This is disgusting,” said a journalist from that organization.

The Reporter responded and sought registration of an FIR against the GMC Baramulla. “A legal defamation notice will be served against the Principal GMC Baramulla,” the Reporter said.

It is worth to mention here that from past 10 days, Serology Test Kits were not available at GMC Anantnag as a result patient were forced to get their tests done outside the hospital. When this Reporter called Medical Superintendent GMC yesterday for the same, he assured that Serology kits will be available from Friday and today those kits were available in the hospital.

Of late it has been observed that to put a curtain on the matters related to public importance, various officials intimidate even senior Journalists threatening police action against them even when they highlight genuine issues. (KNT)
