Police detain alleged NGO staff for conducting ‘eye-care’ tests without permission

Srinagar, Mar 29, KNT: Police seized the equipment and other devices of an alleged NGO ‘Vision Spring’ that was seen conducting eye-care tests on people after collecting their identity cards.
The alleged NGO is from outside Kashmir and had erected a tent at Taxi Stand-2 in the heart of Srinagar city. The people part of the alleged NGO ‘Vision Spring’ claimed that they offer eye screening, primary eye-care services to people free of cost.
The alleged NGO was demanding identity cards, particularly Adhar Cards from the people willing to go for eye screening.
Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that some people questioned their practice of demanding identity cards from the people. They said when some people confronted them, employees of the NGO failed to produce the authentic documents pertaining to the said NGO.
“We don’t know why they were demanding Adhar Cards from the people. Authorities had not permitted them to conduct an eye-care camp in Lal Chowk,” said an eyewitness.
Some of the people informed the police that rushed to the spot and seized the devices and equipment.
Police sources said that the employees of the alleged NGO have been detained for questioning and the investigation is underway. (KNT)
