Srinagar, 31 Jul : A teenage girl reportedly jumped from the Habba Kadal bridge into the river Jhelum this afternoon, as confirmed by local witnesses. “She leapt from a bench in the bridge, several bystanders immediately jumped into the river in a desperate attempt to rescue her. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, as the girl’s body quickly disappeared beneath the water’s surface.”
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police have launched a comprehensive search operation. Teams are scouring the river, but as of now, the girl remains missing. Authorities are employing various methods, including divers and boats, to aid in the search.
This incident comes just a month after the tragic drowning of Numan Gowhar, a teenage boy who lost his life while swimming in the same stretch of the river.
