NABARD, Srinagar Office, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, by holding
a day-long seminar inviting Women SHGs, Women JLGs, Women Farmers and Women
Entrepreneurs for a function.
Manohar Lal, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, delivered the inaugural address, in
tune with the International Women Day theme of “Choose to Challenge” and
highlighted the exemplary role played by the women during the pandemic as health care
workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers and world leaders. Speaking on
the occasion, he said that various developmental initiatives of NABARD like SHG-JLG
bank linkage programme had become an excellent model for rural poverty alleviation and
women empowerment.

The event had Dr. Salima Jan, Director (EMMRC) Educational Multimedia Research
Centre, University of Kashmir as a chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Salima
shared her views about the need for social, cultural, political and economic upliftment of
women.
Mrs. Shabana Buchh, Additional MD J&K State Cooperative Bank and Asif Bhat from
NABARD also spoke on the occasion. Prominent SHG/JLG members and Women
Entrepreneurs were felicitated during the occasion in recognition of their work.
