Pulwama:- People living in rural areas of Pulwama district have accused transporters of charging extra fare from passengers against approved rate list .

The travellers said that the sumo driver’s are charging them rupees 5 extra on four kilometres Pulwama to Murran.

“From Pulwama to Murran, we used to pay rupees 10, now we are being charged rupees 15 per passenger,”(4 kilometre distance) they said. and 15 rupees from Pulwama to Kangan (3 kilometre distance)

The aggrieved passengers castigated the state government for subjecting them to inconvenience, adding that transporters mostly Sumo drivers plying their vehicles on said road are blackmailing the poor passengers who have been left with no other chance except to pay the fare as per the demand of the driver of the vehicle.

The resident complained that the common man is forced to pay extra as per the will of sumo drivers.

Owais Ahmad a resident of Murran said due to lack of check by the concerned department, transporters are taking undue advantage of this. “We are left with no option, but to pay according to the will of drivers,” he said.

However ARTO Pulwama published a fixation of fare notice “ taxi-Maxicab service (Sumo/Tavera etc ) Rs 2.55 per Kilometre per passenger”.

They requested ARTO Pulwama to look into the matter and take action against the drivers.
