Srinagar, June 7: Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister Monday questioned to the government asked it what happened to the Shar-e-Saqafat award and why it was not conferred to eminent personality Abdul Rehman Rahi.
The then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had announced Shar-e-Saqafat award to Abdul Rehman Rahi when she was heading PDP-BJP led coalition government.
Soz in a statement said that in spite of its announcement by the then Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and subsequent large scale coverage in the press both at the national level and the state level, the award has not been conferred to Rahi.
“I raised this issue with the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha today and earnestly requested him that since the Govt. is a running institution, Rahman Rahi be awarded the Sharf-e-Saqafat by the Union Territory Govt., as early as possible. I hope the award ceremony will be fixed soon and the Sharf-e-Saqafat will reach Rahman Rahi,” Soz said adding that he expects that the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha will take personal interest in this issue of public importance. (KNT)
