Vakil demands special economic package for fruit growers
Fruit growers worst hit due to present lockdown and natural calamities: Vakil
Srinagar 10 May 2020: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference Sr. Vice President and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed serious concern over repeated hailstorm, heavy snowfall last year and recent sudden fall of Apple blossom which have bruised and battered the dense apple orchards, cherry, pears and other fruits in Kashmir Valley especially in North kashmir’s Baramulla,Kupwara and Rafiabad. He demanded early compensation to the orchardists and farmers who suffered losses.
He alleged that whenever natural calamities cause damage to the fruit and crops, the worse affected are assured compensation and even surveys are conducted but no relief reaches to them.
He called for a comprehensive compensation for the farmers and orchardists who suffered extensive damages due to recent hailstorm.
Vakil urged the UT government to go for immediate assessment of damages to fruit and disburse financial relief to the affected families without any delay.
He demanded that the Crops Insurance Scheme (CIS) must be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir so that the scheme will save the fruit growers and agriculturists in the event of losses suffered due to natural calamities. Fruit growers are worst hit during the present Covid19 lockdown and repeated hailstorm, Vakil stressed upon the UT Government to waive off KCC loans which is an old demand of fruit growers.
