Her beautiful and creative Islamic Calligraphic work has been winning the hearts of netizens as she posts whatever, she draws on social media. “Social media platforms are the only options to showcase your talent and work,” Abida says and goes on to add that she has been slowly getting recognition for her excellent work.

“Thanks to the Covid-19-related lockdown, I got sufficient time to focus on this art and tried every bit to hone my skills,” Abida who is a Science student at AS College Srinagar told news agency Kashmir News Trust adding that she loves to do Arabic Calligraphy but at the same time, she draws in English as well.

The young Calligrapher says that it gives her immense pleasure when people appreciate her hard work. “I am fortunate enough to have the support and backing of my parents. I think co-curricular activities are also important and we should focus on these activities besides pursuing our academics.”

Abida Rashid who is an awardee of the prestigious 1000 Women of Asia Awards by Women Innovators participates in multiple events and workshops.

“Every workshop or event is a learning process while an award is just a recognition for your hard work and at the same time it encourages you to focus on your goal,” she says.

The Calligraphic work has also helped Abida to earn a livelihood. Abida says she has sold over100 pieces of Islamic Calligraphy, with prices ranging from Rs 550 to Rs 2000 per piece to desired customers. “I sometimes do Calligraphy on the demand of customers and they pay for it.”

“There is a lot of talent and we can polish this talent provided we are ready and willing. Earlier I had thought it would be fun to do Calligraphy but now it has started giving me dividends.

“My natural gift has progressed as people have begun admiring my work and asking about purchasing.”

Her artistic ability has been a blessing. She finds great enjoyment in her work and doesn’t feel burdened by the pressure to produce.

“I aim big and by the grace of Almighty I will reach there,” says the young Abida. (KNT)
