Ensure free of cost transportation of pregnant ladies; DLSA to Admin

Kupwara, June 06 : District legal service authority (DLSA) in north Kahsmir’s Kupwara district has directed DC, SSP, and CMO to ensure hassle free movement and free of cost transportation of pregnant from home to health centre and back.

A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed seeking relief for pregnant ladies facing hardships amid the lockdown enforced in view of the pandemic across the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Kupwara as well.

According to an order, a copy of within lies with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), district legal services authorities have directed, DC, SSP Kupwara/Handwara and CMK to ensure safe and free transportation of all pregnant ladies and no barricade should stop them.

DLSA has directed chief medical officer (CMO) to get the survey of conducted by ASHA wooers for verifying the number ID of pregnant women in the Mohallah (locality) and shall inform their family members the phone numbers of concerned block medical officers and CMO.

It also directed the concerned BMOs to facilitate the visit of pregnant ladies to the health centre during the routine check-up including the time of delivery as spot delivery.

It directed deputy Commissioner and chief medical officer (CMO) Kupwara to devise a mechanism to facilitate free of cost transportation of pregnant women from their home respective residence to the nearest health centre/ hospital without any delay.

DLSA asked DC, SSP Kupwara/  Handwara and CMO Kupwara shall work in tandem to ensure that pregnant women of their family members shall face no barriers, obstruction  or difficultly in visiting health centers for frugal check-ups and at the time of delivery including post-delivery.

Pertinently, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by advocate Mir Umer seeking relaxation for all the pregnant women across the district.

In the PIL petitioner, had raised number of queries about the difficulties faced by pregnant ladies to reach the health centers to medical treatment, he has highlighted the absence of transport form the roads a major challenge faced amid this lockdown enforced to contain the spread of deadly virus—(KNO)
