Srinagar, Nov 18 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that those behind the Delhi blast must receive the harshest punishment under law, while stressing that innocent people should not be dragged into the case or viewed with suspicion.
Speaking to reporters at Ujala Cygnus Hospital after meeting the Nowgam blast-injured, CM Omar, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said he raised the issue in the Northern Zonal Council meeting yesterday, emphasising that every Muslim or Kashmiri should not be automatically linked to the incident.
The Chief Minister also questioned how such a major security lapse could occur inside a police station. “People deserve answers on how such large quantities of explosives were brought in, stored and handled inside a police station. This must be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
Omar reiterated that until the investigation concludes, no one should jump to conclusions or cast suspicion on innocent families. “Those responsible must be punished, but innocent people should not be dragged into this,” he said.
He added that compensation has already been provided from the CM’s Relief Fund, and urged the Home Department to also step in since the blast occurred within a police establishment. He said job assistance for the victim families would also be processed. “I will direct the officers to complete all formalities so that job compensation is provided without delay,” he said.(KNC)
