Sumbal , June 29 : Scores of women from Sumbal area of Bandipora district on Monday, held a protest against the non-availability of drinking water in their village.
According to CNS the protesting women were carrying empty utensils and tumblers with them and were raising slogans against the Public Health Department for failing to provide them clean drinking water.
The protesting women said that the taps in their village are running high and dry, leaving a big chunk of population without drinking water.
They blocked the traffic on Srinagar Sumbal road near Nowgam, by putting their utensils as the road block.
They said, “While Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is sleeping over the issue of shortage of in our area, we are forced to use contaminated water of local streams for drinking purpose.”
They women added that in the absence of clean drinking water and the subsequent compulsion of using dirty water from local streams has exposed the local population to a high risk of water-borne diseases in the area.
Their demand to the higher-ups of PHE department was, to look into the matter and to take necessary steps to ensure clean drinking water supply to their villages immediately, so that they don’t fall prey to an epidemic. (CNS
