Qazigund, Jan 25: After remaining closed for two days due to adverse weather conditions and road disruptions, the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) has been reopened for traffic, bringing major relief to commuters and stranded travelers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Qazigund–Kulgam, Mohd Aslam, confirmed that Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) which were stranded in and around Qazigund have now been allowed to move towards their respective destinations.
“Traffic personnel are deployed at critical points to guide vehicles, manage flow, and ensure the safety of commuters. He advised drivers to maintain lane discipline, follow traffic advisories, and exercise caution while traveling, especially in vulnerable stretches”, he said.
The reopening follows sustained efforts by road maintenance agencies and traffic police teams, who worked round-the-clock to clear snow, debris, and ensure safe driving conditions along the affected stretches of the highway.
Adequate traffic regulation measures have been put in place to facilitate smooth movement and avoid congestion.
