Kulgam, Feb 3:The Ayushman Bharat Sehat Scheme is functioning effectively in District Kulgam, while a new initiative, Ayushman Bharat Vay-Vandana, has been launched by the Government of India exclusively for senior citizens aged 70 years and above, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam said on Monday.
Under the Vay-Vandana scheme, eligible senior citizens are entitled to an additional health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh for treatment in all government and empanelled private hospitals.
The CMO informed that 12,176 Ayushman Bharat Vay-Vandana cards have been generated in the district so far. However, around 6,000 to 7,000 eligible beneficiaries are yet to be enrolled.
He urged all eligible senior citizens to visit their nearest Khidmat Centres at the earliest to avail the benefits of the scheme. The enrollment process requires only an Aadhaar card, he added.
The CMO further clarified that beneficiaries who already possess an Ayushman Bharat Golden Card must get their cards updated to receive the additional coverage under the Vay-Vandana scheme.
Appealing to the public, the District Administration Kulgam has called upon families, especially those with elderly members, to ensure timely enrollment or updation so that senior citizens can benefit from the enhanced medical assistance provided by the Government of India.
