Insulting modesty of woman: Court awards 1 ½ year imprisonment to accused

Bandipora, July 20 : A local court here in North Kashmir awarded one and a half year imprisonment to an accused for trying to insult the modesty of a woman.

Police Station Sumbal in 2013 had arrested one Nazir Ahmed Ganaie son of Habibullah, a resident of Vijpara Hajin area of Bandipora after a woman filed a complaint alleging that the said person tried to tarnish her chastity.

Accordingly an FIR vide number 68/2013 under section 509 RPC was registered against the accused.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Mirza Zahid Khalil told news agency KNT that the court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, after hearing the case awarded one and a half year imprisonment to the accused.

“We presented all the facts and produced witnesses and in the light of those evidences, the accused was convicted,” Khalil said.

Shortly after the court verdict, police arrested the convicted man and shifted him to Central Jail Srinagar. (KNT)
