Srinagar freezes at minus 5.0°C, dry weather to continue till 27 Dec evening

Srinagar, 23 Dec: After slight improvement in temperatures from past few days, night temperature dropped in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster, said minimum temperature settled at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius in Srinagar — 0.2 degrees up from minus 5.2 degree Celsius the previous night.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius last night — down from the previous night’s minus 5.8 degrees Celsius, he said.

The night temperature at Pahalgam resort, which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius as against minus 5.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, he said.

Pahalgam was the coldest recorded place in the valley, he added.

Qazigund — the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius — increase of 0.6 degree from minus 4.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Kokernag town, also in south, recorded a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara, in north, registered a minimum temperature of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius.

He said Leh town, in the Ladakh Union territory, recorded a low of minus 13.2 degrees Celsius.

Kashmir Weather has forecast mainly dry weather till 27 December evening.
