Declaring Jogilankar area of Rainawari a “red zone” after an elderly woman tested positive in the area, the total red zones in the city have risen to 21 of the 25 total zones.
Talking to agency, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Shahid Choudhary said they had sealed all the major exit points of the area to rule out any possibility of the community spread.
“We have taken all the people in quarantine who were in touch with the positive case,” Choudhary said.
With underlying ailments, the woman, 80, tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday.
She died Tuesday afternoon, taking the total death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu Kashmir to eight .
Meanwhile, DC Srinagar visited several red zones on Tuesday to oversee the situation on the ground and obtain feedback from the people about essential services and their needs.
“I visited several houses along with survey teams to encourage frontline workers and ensure effective public participation in the health audit which will serve as the baseline for our healthcare COVID-19 response system,” he said.
The government has identified at least 90 red or containment zones in Jammu Kashmir, 76 of which fall in Kashmir.
Srinagar city has been divided into 25 zones.
With Jogilankar declared red zone, Choudhary said, “The total red zones in the city has risen to 21 out of the 25 zones.”
Among the other red zones in Srinagar include Ahmad Nagar, Nowshehra, Lal Bazar, Hawal, Eidgah, Goripora, Watal Kadal, Chattabal, Khayam, Bemina Iqbalabad and Bakshiabad, Bemina Housing Colony Sector C, Bemina MIG Colony, Bemina Mansoor Colony and Boatman Colony, Tengpora Batamaloo, Hyderpora, Lasjan Soiteng, Natipora, Jawahar Nagar, and Brein Nishat.
There were around 1000 teams consisting of 4000 people from different departments on the ground to ensure that there is no leakage from red zones.
Meanwhile, restrictions to contain the spread of coronavirus were intensified in declared red zones across the Valley, with authorities warning of strict action against those violating prohibitory orders.
