Various Sikh Bodies from J&K have expressed their serious concern over the neglect of Sikh community for reservation as minority community and now the delimitation process has further cautioned us about our proper representation in J&K assembly.
Sardar Tarlochan Singh Wazir (Ex-MLC), Chairman, J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board while addressing a joint press conference in Jammu today with members of DGPC Jammu and Senior Sikh Leaders have demanded minority status for Sikh community in J&K and proper consultation with Sikh leaders of J&K while undertaking the process of delimitation of assembly constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir.
He said Minority Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir, which has mostly come from Pahari areas of POK in 1947, has been continuously deprived of their political and fundamental rights in every sphere of life and we have always demanded for minority status and reservation of at least 6 assembly seats for Sikh community in J&K.
He also said that Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir have been making appeal after appeal for the last so many years to extend minority status for the Sikh community and to set up a Minority Commission in the state on the lines of National Commission for Minority (NCM) in order to shield the interest of minorities including Sikhs as laid down in constitution of India.
Sardar Tarlochan Singh Wazir said now the entire Sikh community is worried about their political future and their democratic and fundamental rights in the wake of delimitation process in J&K.
Sikh leaders with one voice have demanded immediate reservation for minority Sikh community for ensuring proper employment and other benefits and have also demanded creation of at least 5 Sikh constituencies in J&K, after the new delimitation process in J&K, to ensure the safety of our political and democratic aspirations in J&K.
Sardar Tarlochan Singh Wazir along with other Sikh leaders including S. Jagjit Singh, President, DGPC Jammu, S. Kuldeep Singh, Vice President, DGPC Jammu, S. Fateh Singh, General Secretary, DGPC Jammu, S. Mohinder Singh, Joint Secretary, DGPC Jammu, S. Darbinder Singh, Cashier D.G.P.C Jammu, Jathedar Mohinder Singh, Member, DGPC Jammu, S. Manmohan Singh, Member, DGPC Jammu, S. Avtar Singh Khalsa, Member, DGPC Jammu, S. Ramnik Singh, Member, D.G.P.C Jammu, S. Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, S. Narinder Singh Khalsa, S. Balwant Singh Chatha, S. Harmanan Singh have appealed to all the Sikh organisations to formulate a joint strategy for safeguarding the religions, political and democratic rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
