: In continuation to the special drive launched by Awantipora Police for destroying illegal poppy cultivation, Awantipora police on Friday, while using tractors to ensure complete destruction of poppy, destroyed a huge junk of cultivated poppy spread over more than 20 Kanals of land in village Wakherwan of Awantipora sub-district.
Police sources told CNS that five person involved in cultivation of illegal poppy have been arrested under relevant sections of NDPS Act, who were identified as Showkat Ahmad Mir R/O Wakherwan, Nazir Ahmad Mir R/O Wakherwan, Gh Mohmad Mir R/O Wakherwan, Mohamad Shaban R/O Kawini and Gh Hassan Sheikh R/O Kawini
Case F.I.R No.75/2020 was registered against the said arrested persons in Police Station Awantipora under relevant sections of NDPS Act.
General public of the area have appreciated the action of Police and have urged the authorities to continue this drive in nearby areas also.
Meanwhile Police said that the Special drive for destroying cultivated poppy/Bung shall continue in Police District Awantipora. (CNS)
