‘Our fruit has got fully rotten due to callous attitude of authorities’
Ganderbal, June 20 (KNO): The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has played spoilsport with cherry growers in Kashmir, who claimed that their crops have got completely rotten due to the ‘callous attitude’ of the authorities concerned.
The growers here have appealed the Jammu and Kashmir administration to help them in compensating their losses, which they are apprehending in cores this year.
Growers told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), their product has got completely rotten as the authorities concerned didn’t pay any heed to their crops.
Growers of Wakura and other adjoining areas of district Ganderbal said that they have suffered huge losses in this lockdown.
Abdul Ahad Bhat, a cherry grower said that “Ganderbal alone produces 70 percent of cherries. But, due to the callous attitude of the concerned department, out while production has got rotten, thus giving huge losses to the growers.”
Meanwhile, an official from Horticulture department told KNO that the fruit has got rotten as the growers hadn’t applied calcium and alternative forms of calcium to cherries this year.
However, the official said that the cherry growers can directly approach them to seek assistance from the department in this regard so that their production will be saved from witnessing further damage—(KNO)
