Srinagar, June 22, CNS: Dozens of traders and transporters, on Monday, held a protest demonstration in Batmaloo Srinagar, against proposed opening of liquor outlets in Kashmir.
Having assembled under the banner of All Traders and Transporters Joint Coordination Committee (ATTJCC), Dozens of traders and transporters protested against the last week’s government announcement, in which it was said that UT administration is planning to open 67 liquor outlets, in different parts of the valley.
The announcement had suggested that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has located 183 new locations, in different parts of the Union Territory, where it was planning to open new liquor shops, out which 67 locations were identified in Kashmir.
They objected to the idea saying that this is a Muslim Majority area, for which liquor is forbidden, as it destroys the society and promotes immorality.
The demanded that instead of opening liquor shops, government should open health and educational, which will be beneficial for the society.
Pertinently JK government had last week announced that it has identified 183 locations in different parts of the UY, out of which 67 were from Kashmir valley.
The move has faced a strong opposition from different segments of political, social and religious segments of valley.
Given to the stiff opposition from the valley citizens, the finance department of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday, clarified that it doesn’t have any such plans and no decision will be taken without consulting stakeholders; however the protests against the government plan of opening up of liquor outlets, continues to draw flake, from Kashmiris, without a let up.
