Srinagar, July 22(KNB): Despite a number of posts being advertised by the government of India for various posts in different states of the country, the recruitment policy of Jammu and Kashmir Administration has failed to advertise the posts for the B.Lib.I.Sc./M.Lib.I.Sc candidates.
More than 300 qualified and trained professionals of Kashmir University with B.Lib.I.Sc./M.Lib.I.Sc (graduation/post-graduation) courses completed while about 45 students graduating every year from Kashmir University have been allegedly neglected as after spending a lot of money and time of more than five years they are left far behind with no employment opportunities despite the Library Associations across valley waiting for such trained professionals.
The students alleged that despite a huge number of posts being released by the Government of India, the highly qualified professionals are one more time thrown to wind as the eligibility criteria for the maximum posts is only 10+2, crushing the career prospects of Library Information graduates as well as post-graduates.
Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir Administration has not notified any vacancies or posts for Library Information and Science department in the last five years, however, only a single recruitment with eligibility criteria of BLIF was released in past five years and many posts released in the year 2019 for five GMC’s across J&K with eligibility criteria of 10+2.
“Many of the posts by the government are being released with eligibility criteria of 10+2 which directly creates a sense of injustice for the Library professionals who after completion of four to six years of degree courses, are not able to get recruitment for most of the positions. This has been firmly reflected in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir notification released for posts in five GMC’s citing eligibility criteria as 10+2, such minimum essential qualification in the department, for various specialised posts, is prejudiced against professional graduates and post graduates,” Mir Shakir Afzal, spokesperson JK LIS Forum told news agency Kashmir News Bureau.
He further added, “The departmental recruitment rules declare that job-seekers from non-professional degree holders are eligible for posts which should be marked out exclusively for B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc holders, who are well trained and waiting for opportunities since from years.”
Abrar Ahmad, a Library science pass out student said, “Hundreds of professional degree holders pass out from the Kashmir University every year, but unfortunately lack of employment opportunities and such minimum qualifications as eligibility criteria boost the already large-scale unemployment across the valley.”
While appealing to the higher authorities he said, “We request all the higher authorities to please look into our grievances, It is our humble request to the authorities concerned to create some job opportunities with B.lib.I.Sc being marked as minimum eligibility criteria.”
Pertinently, in the year 2019, Governor’s administration the Directorate of Employment carried out a survey in which all the unemployed youth with basic postgraduate degrees, MPhil or PhD were asked to register themselves with the district employee exchanges in their respective districts. The survey indicated that the total number of unemployed PG scholars stood at an alarming figure of around 3 lakh, and the unemployment rates among graduate, technical degree holders, post graduates, was even more higher.(KNB)
