After she was admitted to a hospital with throat pain, the doctors performed some scans and found a ‘black moving worm’ on her left tonsil. The parasite was 3.8 centimeters-long.

A 25-year-old woman from Tokyo was taken to the hospital after she complained of severe throat pain.

She had apparently eaten some sashimi, a Japanese delicacy that consists of raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces and often served with soy sauce.

Before we get into the details of the story, it’s important for everyone to know that sashimi is one of the most popular eats in Sushi joints around the world. Unlike other exotic food found in Asian countries, this delicacy is safe and enjoyed by millions of people worldwide.

However, the unnamed woman from Tokyo was in for some serious bad luck after she ate a serving of sashimi. Believe it or not, the fish housed a parasitic roundworm that goes by the scientific name of Pseudoterranova azarasi.

Unfortunately for the woman, the worm was still inside the fish when she ate it.

After she was admitted to a hospital with throat pain, the doctors performed some scans and found a ‘black moving worm’ on her left tonsil. The parasite was 3.8 centimeters-long.

Thankfully, doctors were able to remove the worm without causing any damage to the woman’s throat.

The case has now been published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

“Her blood test results were normal. Symptoms rapidly improved after removing the worm using tweezers. The worm body was black, 38 mm long, 1mm wide, and was moulting the outer cuticle,” the researchers wrote.

Earlier this year, doctors in Austin, Texas found that a man who was suffering from headaches for months had a tapeworm in his brain.

Gerardo Moctezuma, from Austin, Texas, was dealing with headaches for several months which he thought were due to tension. When he visited the Dell Seton Medical Center, he was shocked to find that he had a rare brain infection.

When doctors conducted an MRI, the scan revealed that the man had a rare brain infection caused by a parasite.

The origin of the parasite is unknown, however, Gerardo believes that he could have developed the infection because of eating undercooked pork in Mexico.

Interestingly, a tapeworm was also found in Gerardo’s sister’s brain years ago.

Doctors suspected that the tapeworm had been growing inside his brain for more than a decade. – (Times Now News)
