August 17: Today at about 0915hrs, terrorists fired indiscriminately upon a joint naka party of Police and security forces from nearby orchards at Nawan mode Kreeri area of Baramulla.

In the terror incident, 02 CRPF personnel of 119 BN and a police personnel sustained grievous gunshot injuries. The injured were evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries. However, all the three injured personnel succumbed to their injuries and attained martyrdom. They have been identified as SPO Muzaffar Ali of District Police Baramulla, Constable Lokesh Sharma and Constable Khurshid Khan of 119 Bn CRPF. In the initial retaliatory firing one terrorist got injured.

The terrorists were engaged till the area was completely cordoned off with the help of reinforcement and the search operation was thereafter jointly launched by Baramulla Police, 29RR and CRPF.

In the ensuing encounter, so far 02 terrorists were killed. Two Army personnel also sustained gunshot injuries and were shifted to hospital where one among them is stated to be critical. The killed terrorists have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Mir @Haider, @Jaja of Brath Kalan Sopore (LeT Chief of North Kashmir) and Anayatullah Mir of Andergam Pattan, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT.

As per police records, Sajad had a history of terror crime records since 2016. He was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area including civilian atrocities and attacks on security establishments. Moreover, he was also involved in recruitment of youth in terror ranks. Several terror crime cases were registered against him which included killing of Waseem Bari and his family member, attack on CRPF party at Sopore resulting in martyrdom of one personnel and injuries to four other personnel, killing of civilians namely Eid-ul-Amin Mir @Nazir Budoo (tower guard) R/o Behrampora Sopore, Gh Mohi ud Din Sheikh R/o Bomai and Mushtaq Ahmad Mir R/o Harwan Sopore besides firing on the family of a fruit merchant namely Haidullah Rather at Dangerpora Sopore in which 4 family members including a three year baby got injured. He was also involved in firing on a non local labour namely Mohammad Shafi Alam near Noorbagh Bypass in order to terrorise the non local labourers.

Moreover, he was also involved in setting ablaze two maruti cars at Reban Sopore and Warpora Sopore to terrorise transporters for observing complete shutdown.

While the other killed terrorist Anayatullah Mir was also involved in threatening and harassing civilians in Pattan area and transporting of foreign terrorists from Northern Kashmir to Central/Southern Kashmir parts.

The operation is still going on and further details shall follow.
