Srinagar: Abid Nabi 35 years old professional cricketer hailing from Sonwar area of district Srinagar who had represented Kashmir 20 times on national level. He is a right-arm fast bowler and is identified as one of the fastest bowlers in India.He had also played for the Delhi Giants in the now-defunct Indian Cricket League.
During an interview Abid said that he had started from 2001 where he started playing from under 14 category and played 2 nationals in it. He had played nationals under the category of 16,17 and 19.In 2004 Abid had played for Ranjee trophy 1 day 4 times and 4 times for test match which is still being played.
His best bowling analysis is 6 for 91 against Himachal Pradesh in his fourth match.He took 4 for 42 and 5 for 27 in the victory over Kerala in 2009-10.He had played India under 19 in 2004 and in consecutive year i.e 2005 he had played for Board present 11.
Not only this the passion in Abid never stopped and the spirit in him is still at the atmost level.Despite of many hinderences Abid never stepped back for his passion cricket.He had played for Deodar Trophy 3 times in 2004-2005,2005-2006,2006-2007and for Dileep Trophy he played 2 times in 2005-2006,2012.
Abid had played in almost every corner across the country. It takes relentless hard work, years of undivided attention and a lot of perseverance chasing the dream to one day appear in your country’s colors. What separates the legends from thousands of extremely talented youngsters sweating it out every single day on the field, is their attitude towards the game.
Abid Nabi who was seen as the rising speed star in India’s domestic cricket on the prospect of his speed when it took 5 wicket haul in an under 19 match against England. He switched to ICL put curtains down on whatever hope was left of him playing for India. He was considered as top cricketer of the state who has not found a place in J&K team for a long time.
Abid Nabi played his last match for J&K in T20 format on March 2017 in which he took 2 wickets in the only match he played before that he had represented state in T20 format in 2014.After playing his last match for J&K he said he was not given match to play. The potential which Abid had for the game grew up day by day unconditionally.Abid played Minor County in England which was held in year 2004-2005. From year 2006 to 2008 he played ICL( Indian Cricket League).
While heading towards the end of the interview Abid said that he is the Junior Cricket Coach in Sports Council and he himself is still playing.Having last words with Abid about the youth, he said that our youth must stay away from the things which will exploit their career and must take part in any relevant interest field be that sports, social work, painting, writing or anything else.
