Reliable sources in the SMC told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that some land grabbers of the area have allegedly sold a patch of land under survey no 139 and 437 at Bagie-Nandsingh estate Rampora. The said patch of land is now being illegally encroached by some ‘miscreants/land brokers and corporator’. The local Corporator himself has also grabbed a patch of land by way of fencing in the said Khasra.

An official communication accessed by Kashmir Dot Com reads that “the estate belonging to Srinagar Municipal Corporation situated at Baghi Nand Singh Chattabal under survey No. No.139 and 437 is being illegally encroached by some miscreants allegedly the local Corporator/Public Representative and they are doing earth filling illegally on the property belonging to the Corporation. “The encroachers are trying to encroach the patch of land and innumerable times the same has been resisted and every now and then encroachment has been removed, ” reads the communication.

It further said that a few weeks back the land had been encroached wherein tin fencing had been installed late at night but due to the swift action of the field staff and timely reporting the authorities thereby swung into action and removed the encroachment with the demolition squad.

If sources are to be believed, under survey no 139 and 437 land measuring 11 kanal and 10 Marlas were in possession of Corporation, but at present there are only around 7-8 kanals of land, that too is being encroached day by day. “8 Marals of land was recently encroached by a public representative, but nobody in the Corporation is bothered about it,” they said.

Sources further said at least half dozen expired dumper bins that were put in this government land were also sold out by these land grabbers.

They said that top officials of the corporation were pressurised for not communicating this matter to Srinagar Police. “Everything that has happened is in the notice of the Commissioner SMC, but no action has been taken so far,” they alleged.

“Before few days’ encroachers again tried to do earth filling and installing tin sheds which have again been restrained and resisted but they are trespassing the land with ill motive and criminal intent, ” sources added.

An official of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation said, there is no genuineness in selling the land to any private person. Some miscreant’s tried to encroach our land at Bagie-Nandsingh for which matter stands taken up with police for immediate action, he added. (KDC)
