According to the official data assessed by news agency JKNS, police registered a total of around 1,000 cases during the year 2025, reflecting a sharp focus on identifying and dismantling drug trafficking and peddling networks operating in different parts of the Valley.

The data shows that nearly 1,400 individuals involved in drug-related activities were arrested as part of the ongoing drive, with investigations aimed at tracing both supply chains and local distribution links.

To break organised syndicates, police placed about 170 habitual offenders under preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act, the data shows.

In a major financial drug crackdown, properties worth over ₹70 crore were attached, covering more than 120 movable and immovable assets, while around 40 properties were permanently seized under relevant legal provisions, data stated.

The approach is aimed not only at arrests but at choking the financial backbone of the drug trade, sending a strong deterrent message to those involved in narcotics trafficking, a senior police officer privy to the year-long drug crackdown told JKNS.

He said that police are laying special emphasis on expeditious trials through an effective pairvi system.

“Strong investigations have resulted in convictions in several quality cases, with courts awarding sentences up to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with fines running into lakhs of rupees”

The officer added that police are prioritising quality disposal of investigations, ensuring accused persons are brought before courts with legally sustainable evidence. “More than 90 percent disposal has been achieved through quality investigation and judicial determination.”

He said that the sustained crackdown combining preventive detention, property attachment and strong prosecution reflects J&K Police’s firm resolve to eliminate the drug menace and protect the youth of Kashmir from narcotics abuse.

The year-long anti-narcotics campaign underscores the relentless commitment, professionalism and coordinated efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in safeguarding society from the growing menace of drugs.

Through sustained ground-level action, intelligence-led operations and strict legal enforcement, J&K Police have sent out a clear message of zero tolerance, reinforcing public confidence and demonstrating their resolve to protect the youth and future of Kashmir. (JKNS)
