Growing participation in Run for Unity reflects positive transformation in J&K; DGP highlights anti-drug drive, counter-terror operations and rescue efforts
Srinagar, Oct 1: The increasing involvement of children and youth in sports and other constructive pursuits is emerging as a significant force in steering Jammu and Kashmir towards peace, stability and prosperity, while simultaneously countering attempts from across the border to disturb the region, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat said on Thursday.
Addressing the flag-in ceremony of the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon organised by the J&K Police at the Police Golf Course in Srinagar, Prabhat congratulated the participants and termed the steadily rising turnout in the annual event an encouraging indication of the changing aspirations of the younger generation.
He said the growing participation of youngsters demonstrated their commitment towards building a peaceful and prosperous future. According to him, sports and other constructive engagements provide an effective avenue for channelling youthful energy towards productive and positive objectives.
Prabhat said Jammu and Kashmir was witnessing continued progress despite what he described as persistent attempts from across the border to create disturbances and undermine peace.
He emphasised that the J&K Police and its Armed Police units regularly organise sporting competitions and other youth-oriented initiatives to provide young people with meaningful opportunities and keep them engaged in constructive activities.
Speaking about the police’s campaign against narcotics, the DGP said authorities had registered thousands of cases and arrested numerous individuals involved in drug-related activities. He added that properties allegedly connected with narcotics-related operations had also been attached as part of the enforcement drive.
On counter-terrorism efforts, Prabhat said operations against terrorism were continuing and described September as an important month for the security forces in this regard.
Referring to the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, he said J&K Police had played a central role in ensuring the security and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, with Armed Police personnel also deployed for the purpose.
The DGP further highlighted the role of specialised rescue teams, stating that 19 mountain rescue teams had been deployed. He also praised the coordinated efforts of the J&K Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies during the recent Gulmarg Gondola disruption, when stranded passengers were evacuated in a record period.
Prabhat congratulated ADGP Armed Police and all personnel associated with the rescue and other operations for their dedication and coordinated response.
He reiterated that J&K Police would continue to create opportunities for young people through sports and other constructive initiatives, while remaining committed to strengthening peace, stability, progress and prosperity across Jammu and Kashmir.
