Srinagar, March 15: While many parts of valley continued to receive light rainfall for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, the Meteorological Department has predicted improvement in weather conditions and said it shall remain dry till March 20th.Another wet spell is to follow from March 21st onwards, the officials added.
Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Monday evening and after that weather will remain mainly dry and cloudy for the next few days in Kashmir.
He said western disturbances will likely hit the valley between 21-22of March and it may cause light to moderate rainfall in plains and snowfall on higher reaches.
As per MeT officials, light rains lashed parts of valley, Srinagar recorded a 1.2 mm of rainfall till 5:30 PM on Sunday, Gulmarg 3.0 mm, Qazigund 0.7 mm, Kupwara 5.8 mm, and Pahalgam 1.7 mm, and Kokernag 4.7 mm.
Summer capital Srinagar had 5.8, Pahalgam 0.6, and Gulmarg minus 2.2 as the minimum temperature on the Celsius scale between Saturday and Sunday night.
As per traffic advisory issued by the traffic department on Sunday, there will be one-way light motor vehicular (LMV) traffic from Srinagar to Jammu on highway.
Meanwhile, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) stranded between Jawahar tunnel and Qazigund shall be allowed towards Jammu, while no vehicle shall be allowed to ply before or after the cut-off timing.
Meanwhile, Mughal road, connecting Shopian and Poonch districts is still closed due to snow accumulation.(RK)
