Srinagar, May 8, KNT: Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid’s behavior has irked many including doctors, students and journalists even in these testing times of Covid19.

The Principal is holding an important position where she is seen as an important source of information for the general public about the Coronavirus which is looming large, but the behavior of this Principal is widely being condemned by the doctors working under her, students studying in GMC Srinagar and the journalists.

A group of doctors told KNT that they are unable to perform their duties due to the ‘arrogance’ of the Principal even during these covid emergencies.

One of the doctors wishing anonymity said that, “she is so much arrogant that we cannot even make requests at times. Her irresponsible behavior has irked us. We cannot continue working under her any longer,” the medico said adding that the incumbent Principal never behaves properly and virtually it seems she is not a good human being.

Students of the college said that she never remains available for them to address their problems, even if she is available in office she doesn’t allow students to her office.

Meanwhile some journalists also alleged that the Principal behaves rudely when asked to respond about a news report or a query.

“GMC Principal attributes recent death of young Covid-19 infected man to ‘Cytokine storm’ which is worrying if so’ a senior journalist Irfan Quraishi tweeted.

Quereshi alleged that the Principal not only misbehaved with him but also declined to share any information about the deceased patient. Accordingly Irfan Quereshi tweeted again and tagged Government Spokesperson Rohit Kansal saying that ‘the Principal Madam is never available to media, even if the situation demands her to be so.”

Another scribe Farooq Wani also alleged that the other day, the Principal Madam hung her phone abruptly when asked to respond about a news report. “She is drunk with arrogance and insolence. A government officer of her repute should behave properly with everyone,” Wani said.

Prof Samia Rashid has done MBBS and MD from the GMC, Srinagar. Subsequently, she joined the medical college as a faculty member and became the head of the medicine department.

She was appointed the Principal, GMC, Srinagar, in April 2017 by the state Cabinet headed by then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, based on the recommendations of the establishment-cum-selection committee. However, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in April 2019 set aside the Cabinet order and quashed her appointment.

However, in February this year, the incumbent LG GC Marmu appointed her as the in charge principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, again after the retirement of Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Shah. (KNT)
