Srinagar, June 11: As the University of Kashmir is mulling not to conduct this year’s entrance test instead making selection of the students on the basis of merit obtained in the qualifying examination, a group of students accuse authorities of putting their career at stake by making the decision.

The students accused Administration for ruining their academic session by two years as instead of completing their degrees in three years they get their graduate degrees in five years and urged the KU administration to conduct their entrance test so that they can continue their studies at post-graduation level, as many students will not fall in the selection list if made on merit basis.

“It took us almost five years to complete our graduation As we took admission in 2016 March  and we completed it in May 2020 For this entire duration ,we faced many problems , political unrest was always there and on top of that KU was never fair with us while After all the queries and complaints KU always turned a blind eye towards our grievances and complaints,” KU student wishing not to be named told Kashmir News Bureau

“After all these suffering we still went with our graduation .Now when we have 1 fair chance to prove ourselves in PG exams KU is taking it away from us. How can they compare term end examination merit with competitive exams? Selection on the basis of merit of that examination where there was neither a fair question paper nor fair checking is completely injustice.”

The students while terming the decision as unfair and illogical said that an average student is also eligible for entrance test and can crack the examination also, however most of the students will lose an opportunity to get admission and study masters if this decision is to be followed as the University can’t predict or evaluate a students intelligence through marks or percentage.

Pertinently, the KU administration earlier issued a circular saying it may not be possible to conduct this year’s entrance test and that admissions shall be made on the basis of merit obtained in the qualifying examination, moreover,  decided to promote the post-graduate and the  of select professional under-graduate courses to the next semester on the performance of their internal assessments without any term-end semester examinations.

Another student said, “This decision of KU is completely unjust to us, when we filled the entrance form we all were unaware of the situation what is about to happen all the students including backlog students filled the forms ,now when Kashmir University is mulling to give us admissions on the basis of merit ,then  backlog students are already out of the competition .

“If all the other universities across the country  have postponed their exams, why can’t Kashmir University,” she further said.”

Despite repeated calls made by the Kashmir News Bureau, Dean Academic Kashmir University didn’t respond.(KNB)
