Srinagar, Mar 22: Syed Shamim, a keen railway official, rescued 19-year-old Salman Rashid Sofi from being run over by a speeding train at the 109 km point under the jurisdiction of Railway Police Sopore.
Sofi, listening to music through earbuds, remained oblivious to the oncoming 3rd up-train while he tried to cross the railway track.
Eyewitnesses reported the situation as frightening. “We cried out, but he couldn’t listen. It was a matter of seconds from the catastrophe,” a local from the area explained. Shamim’s timely intervention saved an oncoming fatal accident and drew kudos from officials.
Officials appeal to people to remain vigilant near train tracks, keep their wits about them, and never trespass.
Shamim’s act of bravery reminds us of the life-saving efforts of railway staff in maintaining public safety.
Meanwhile, The youth was later handed to his parents after due counselling. IGP Railways Vivek Gupta has granted reward and a certificate of appreciation to the vigilant SPO official.— (KB)
