Civilian killed, 5 injured in cross LoC firing in northern Kupwara
Srinagar, Aug 7, : A 40 year old civilian was killed and five were injured in intense shelling by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah area of northern Kupwara district on Friday, police said.
A senior police official news agency KDC that “Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Karnah sector in Kupwara district on Friday afternoon by firing mortars and other weapons, which resulting the death of a civilian and injuries of 5 persons including a woman ,”.
He identified the injured civilians as Hamida Begum Wife of Mohammad Akbar 23, Zakir khan 24, Naseer ah Khan, residents of Rangward, Syed Rafaqat of Kachadiyan, and Mohammad Yaqoob from Baghballa. All the 6 persons including a woman were rushed to SDH Kralpora where from the woman has been referred to Srinagar and her condition is stated to be critical, and civilian Arif Ahmad son of Alif Din of Shamaspura Baghbela area of Karnah succumbed to his injuries at Kupwara hospital late evening on Friday, he said.
Meanwhile, an army official told KDC that Pakistan army violated ceasefire along the line of control in Uri sector of Northern Baramulla district by resorting firing mortars and other weapons. The Army gave a befitting reply to the “unprovoked aggression and retaliated in adequate measure”, he added. However there were no reports about injury to any person so far from Baramula sector.
