Tral, Sep 1, KNT: Agitating against the water shortage, people living in upper reaches of South Kashmir’s Tral town Tuesday staged a protest accusing district administration of doing lip service only and not providing them drinking water.
Locals from Kamla Gujar Basti, a village in the upper reaches of Tral after registering their protest told KNT that there is no water available for them and the administration is not even responding.
A few locals carrying empty water buckets during the protest demanded adequate drinking water facility to their village.
“Administration has failed to provide water connection so for. A water tanker arrives in the village once in a week but when it rains, service is suspended,” said Muhammad Abas.
An official when contacted said that the inhabitants reside on a plateau where there is no feasibility for water connections. He said water tankers are unable to ply during rainy season due to slippery road. The official however, added that there is a proposal to provide drinking water to every household. (KNT)
