‘Kashmiri youth should be part of India’s success story’

Srinagar, Feb 25: Lt. Gen R. S Reen, who became Director General Quality Assurance in Indian Army on Saturday appealed Kashmiri youngsters to become a part of the success story of India, that is moving at a very fast pace in the world.

In a telephonic conversation with Kashmir Despatch, Lt. Gen Reen said: “My message to the youngsters of Kashmir is that I have reached at this stage and these are the avenues and opportunities available for the people of Kashmir.”

He added: “Unfortunately, people of Kashmir have seen a difficult phase for the last over three decades. My humble request to the people of Kashmir is that let the people come out of this and let our youth come into the mainstream.”

A 1986-batch officer, Lt Gen Reen is an alumnus of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He had completed his BE (Electrical) from National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, Specialisation in Radio Engineering and post-graduation in Communication Engineering from MC EME, Secunderabad.

Taking to Kashmir Despatch, Lt. Gen Reen remarked that he wants to see the Kashmiri boys as a part of the India’s success story because the world is changing and so is India. “In my organization, I don’t find any Kashmiri boys. I wish I have more, because there is not dearth of talent in Kashmir.”

He observed: “Our Kashmiri boys are equally good as the youth of rest of India. Since the government jobs are not available, we should facilitate our youngsters to join the industrial sector. Let our Kashmiri boys integrate and join and be part of the complete story of India that is moving at a very faster pace.”

Referring to drug menace, Lt. Gen Reen said: “I have heard stories that drugs are entering Valley at a larger pace. It will spoil the fabric of Kashmir. You should understand what happened in Punjab. We should not draw parallels. We should understand that the society moves, how its environment moves.”

He added: “It is the fabric and our society and the country that needs to be preserved and protected. Apparently referring to Pakistan, the Lt. Gen said that the nations that went on a different philosophies guided by religion, are ruined.”

In his special message to the North Kashmir, Lt. Gen Reen said that he wants to see Baramulla and Kupwara districts becoming an industrial hub, especially, in tourism sector. “North Kashmir has many virgin areas. Take Baramulla district as an example. We should have best of the resorts in North Kashmir.”

He added: “We should explore the possibilities to make North Kashmir as a hub of winter clothing glacier and sports clothing that can be manufactured for the defense forces as well. This can generate in creation of at least 10,000 jobs for Baramulla and Kupwara.”

He observed that the rail services and all weather road connectivity will give a flip to the business in Kashmir especially to North Kashmir.

Lt. Gen Reen was a senior faculty at Defence Institute of Quality Assurance, Bengaluru. In addition, he is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Lt. Gen Reen has done certification in Reliability Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur and is Qualified Lead Auditor in Quality Management System & Integrated Management System from Bureau Veritas, Bengaluru.

He has headed Senior Quality Assurance Estt., Brig at Headquarters, Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) and was Controller (Missile System) in Secunderabad. He also headed the DQA(L) as Additional Director General (Electronics) at HQ DGQA, New Delhi.

Pertinently, Lt. Gen Reen is the son of Late Professor Sajan Singh, (Physics). His mother is Mohinder Kaur, retired principal girls higher secondary school Baramulla.

Born and raised in Gohan village of Baramulla district, Lt Gen Reen joined St Joseph High School in Baramulla before pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.

“My cousins still live in Baramulla. I have not shifted permanently to Delhi but for the services I am in Delhi,” he added.
