Srinagar 09 July (CNS): Locals of Rajpora village in north Kashmir Handwara’s Rajwar block on Tuesday morning staged protest against the water shortage in the area, “calling it a factor behind the tragic road accident, which consumed lives of four members of a family.”
As per the news agency CNS, the protesters blocked the road in Handwara in wake of the deadly accident when a vehicle with its occupants, who were apparently going to fetch drinking water from a stream, skidded off the road.
“The lives of four family members were lost due to unavailability of the drinking water in the area. There would not have arisen a need for them to go outside for water if its shortage was addressed before,” protesters said.
They said that the area has been going through water shortage since the last few months, with a lackadaisical attitude from the Jal Shakti Department regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, the protesters have demanded stern action against the erring officials, sidelining the issue, and sought immediate restoration of drinking water to the area. (CNS)
