Kulgam, Dec 12: Four houses were gutted in the fire incident in the Poniwah village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The owner of one of the houses sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
Eyewitnesses said that a fire broke out in one of the houses and it spread to 3 adjacent houses. Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, one of the house owners, was trapped inside his house who suffered severe burn injuries. He managed to escape by jumping out of a window and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A victim said that the fire spread so quickly that there was no time to salvage anything. “We lost everything in the blaze,” said Bashir Ahmad Bhat, one of the victims.
Firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze, but the flames inflicted significant damage, leaving the affected families homeless and in despair.
A police official confirmed that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The affected homes belonged to Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Muhammad Shaban Bhat, and Mukther Ahmad Bhat.
Tehsildar Kulgam Bilal Ahmad, accompanied by Naib Tehsildar, visited the spot to assess the situation and extended immediate assistance to the displaced families. [KNT]
