Handwara, Sep 4, KNT: A Policeman has been arrested on charges of ‘forgery and fraud’ in North Kashmir’s Handwara town.

The arrest was made after one Mudasir Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Shanoo Langate area filed a complaint at police station Handwara stating that a policeman working in the office of DySP DAR Handwara duped him and after taking Rs two lakhs provided him a fake appointment order in Jammu Kashmir Police Department.

Both the accused cop and the complainant hail from the same Shanoo Langate area of Kupwara district. The accused has been identified as Shabir Ahmed Dar (390/H) who is in lock-up and suspended as well.

Sources told news agency KNT that the accused Shabir Ahmed Dar in 2017 handed over a fake appointment order to the complainant for SPO and for some time the accused asked him to accompany him and they both used to visit District Police Lines Handwara.

The complainant was sure that he has got the job of SPO. The accused even provided him with a fake belt number 349/spo and for at least 3 months, he deposited money into the bank account of the complainant saying it is his salary.

The complainant Mudasir Ahmed has submitted all the bank statements before the police.

Police accordingly took cognizance of the complaint and registered an FIR vide number 300/2020 under section 420, 468 at police station Handwara. The accused cop Shabir Ahmed Dar was arrested accordingly.

A police official declined to comment on the issue saying the case is looked at by SP Handwara.

When contacted, SP Handwara Sandeep Chakarvarti told KNT that cop working in DySP DAR office has been arrested. “The accused has committed forgery and a case has been registered against him,” he said adding that investigation is going on. (KNT)
